Hundreds of young learners descended upon the Aerospace Center for Excellence for the annual Aerospace Discovery Day, Saturday, October 7th, 2017, and experienced a new adventure with aviation! Participants enjoyed an abundance of activities sponsored by Visit Central Florida, Publix Super Market Charities and the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport.
An army of volunteers provided lessons in meteorology and the forces of flight and hosted crafting stations where learners constructed their very own wing ribs and balsa gliders. 66 future engineers were excited to meet student volunteers with the University of Central Florida chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) who assisted them in constructing and launching model rockets. 114 earnest learners completed a campus wide scavenger hunt and were awarded with an ice cream treat and entered in to a drawing for a free drone.
Families joined us from across Florida and we were delighted to see international participants coming from Bolivia and Belgium. We look forward to seeing you at our next Family Friendly event – stay tuned to our web page and social media to keep up to date on the latest happenings.
