EarlyBirds volunteers are invited to the SUN ‘n FUN Convention Campus and become a temporary resident. In exchange for a minimum of four (4) six-hour days by every able-bodied individual in the household, they are offered full hook-ups, all utilities, Wi-FI and camaraderie. Many arrive from September on but they must be in the campground no later than ninety (90) days prior to the Fly-In event and work through one week after the Fly-In. An EarlyBird may also choose to live off site and participate in the program after participating at least one year as a resident on the grounds.
A YearlyBird is a year-round volunteer who puts in several hours per month, averaging ten months out of each year. (October 1 through September 30). Incentives such as an annual awards banquet, gifts and gas cards, and Florida Attractions admissions are available based on the hours logged in each work area.
Fly-In volunteers work in all areas of the Fly-In. They receive a patch for a minimum of eight hours of volunteer time, documented by the completion and submission of a volunteer card. Fly-In volunteers are awarded “Years of Service” pins for each 5 years logged. Lunches are provided daily and a festive “Taildragger” Party is held on the last day of the event for all volunteers.
Event volunteers assist SUN ‘n FUN staff in implementing one or more of the expanding year-round calendar of events on our campus. Flip pancakes at a Saturday morning Fly-In; decorate WWII Canteen style for the mid-year Hangar Door Canteen fundraiser; collect tickets, transport guests or park airplanes for “When Pigs Fly South”, (the world’s largest Fly-In BBQ Challenge!) and work as facilities are rented for car shows, glowruns, dog shows and more.
The volunteer opportunities are endless as part of SUN ‘n FUN’s Event Volunteer Staff!
